Art Therapy aims the strengthening of the client’s identity and autonomy are actively promoted whilst creative approaches are learned.Through the use of art therapy techniques the therapist aims to develop their client’s ego confidence and self esteem. In order to achieve these aims different creative media can be identified and utilised according to their different functions and ability to produce varying results. For example painting can help to stimulate sensitivity; working with tactile materials such as plasticine or clay can help to alleviate tension and graphic methods can activate willpower.Art Therapy can be a particularly useful way of working with clients who have difficulties with verbal communication.”
